Smartphones are great for navigating around new places. Having that feature has made me feel much more confident driving in busy cities.

But I tell you what, if you’re looking for a farmhouse out here in the country, a navigating app is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

I was invited to dinner at a nearby farmhouse a little while back that should have been easy to find. Well, after following the directions on my phone I wound up on a dirt road that got narrower and narrower until it led me to a broken-down bridge that didn’t look sturdy enough to hold a stiff breeze!

I won’t even say how late I was to that dinner! The memory is too painful.

That’s why I still rely on word-of-mouth directions!
