Looking at the snow that’s dusting my back yard, I got to wondering whether it’s really true what they say, that no two snowflakes are alike.
I found an article on the subject, but I was quickly up to my eyeballs in scientific language: “even if we restrict ourselves to isotopically pure water molecules, it’s still very, very unlikely that two macroscopic snow crystals would be exactly alike…”
No matter how many times I read that line, all I can do is smile and wonder who wrote it. What they knew.
Maybe I’ll memorize it to use at parties!
The next time I find myself in a conversation that I can’t quite follow, I’ll just breeze in with something about “macrosopic snowflake isotopes,” and if I can do it with a straight face, maybe they’ll think I have any idea what I’m talking about!
