Did you know that the Kentucky Derby, the most famous horse race in the world, is also called the Run for the Roses?
In a tradition that dates back more than 100 years, the winning horse is draped with a blanket made of roses, 554 of them to be precise.
Of course, to earn that gorgeous garland (along with fame, money, etc.) they have to run a mile and a quarter in about two minutes, or juuust faster than the horse behind them.
I don’t know that I could run a mile and a quarter in two hours, let alone two minutes, but why should that mean I don’t get to enjoy some beautiful rosy goodness?
Guess I’ll just have to buy mine.
